The Community Impact program brings volunteers, community partners and homeowners together.

This program delivers quality of life improvements that would be cost prohibitive.

Projects typically include yard beautification, decluttering, painting, cleaning, and general prep work. The program also partners with neighborhood hubs, such as schools and community spaces, to expand its reach.

  • Community Impact is the volunteer arm of Taking Ownership PDX. An intergenerational community of Portland-area volunteers powers rapid home repairs, neighborhood cleanups, and quality-of-life upgrades for Black homeowners across the metro area.

  • Between 2020 and 2023, more than 400 volunteers contributed an estimated $170,000 worth of labor to Taking Ownership PDX projects across the Portland Metropolitan Area.

  • Taking Ownership PDX focuses on historically Black neighborhoods in North and Northeast Portland, including Albina, Boise, King, Woodlawn, and Cully, while serving Black homeowners throughout the broader Portland Metropolitan Area.

  • Taking Ownership PDX partners with Portland-area contractors, material suppliers, tradespeople, and professional service providers who donate labor, discounted materials, or expertise to support Black homeownership and community renovation.
