We hire trusted contractors to provide free repairs and renovations for Black homeowners as a form of reparations.
Our Home Preservation program is the flagship of Taking Ownership, helping families build generational wealth and age in place in safe, healthy homes.
Our work is prioritized in three tiers:
Urgent repairs

Roofing, plumbing, electrical, mold, pests, Ada needs.
Energy Efficiency Upgrades

HVAC, water heaters.
cosmetic fixes
3
First come, first serve basis.
Services typically range from $5,000–$20,000 depending on need.

requirements for applicants
Household income must be equal or below 120% of the median income.
Please refer to the Portland Housing Bureau chart here to see if you qualify.

Applicants must live in Multnomah, Clackamas or Washington counties.

Sign a Contract Service Agreement.

The homeowner must provide:
1) Proof of income to verify household income.
2) A document that confirms they are the legal owners of the home.
