Making a Difference One Home at a Time
We're excited to share that Taking Ownership PDX has recently completed several impactful projects! These include a bathroom and kitchen remodel, as well as a deck remodel for Black homeowners in Portland. These renovations not only helped to improve the safety and comfort of these homes but also helped preserve the long-term value and stability for the families we serve. We’re proud to continue making a tangible difference in our community, one home at a time! Randal Wyatt at CreativeMornings & Black Friday
I’m excited to share two important speaking engagements I am involved with. The first took place on October 25th where I participated in a Q&A with the president of Taking Ownership PDX's board of directors, Charles Slaughter, at the CreativeMornings Portland event. We discussed the work we’re doing at Taking Ownership PDX, and our mission to empower Black homeowners in Portland through home repairs and renovations. This inspiring conversation at the Artist Mentorship Program (AMP) was a great morning bringing together creativity, community and conversation! Thank you to all who attended.
I’m also honored to be a part of a panel at Black Friday happening on Friday, November 8 at 6:30 pm at the Hollywood Theater located at 4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland. This event will feature two short films exploring the concept of “home” through the eyes of Black Portlanders, followed by a panel discussion. I’ll be joining other community leaders to talk about gentrification, displacement, and the resilience of our community. It’s a powerful conversation you won’t want to miss—come be part of it as we discuss reclaiming our physical spaces, cultural heritage, and the spirit of home.
