Join Taking Ownership PDX’s Mission This Holiday Season

The holiday season is the perfect time to reflect on how we can uplift our community. Taking Ownership PDX is committed to supporting Black homeowners in Portland by providing critical home repairs and renovations that address the challenges of gentrification and displacement. This work is made possible by the generosity of donors who share our vision of building a stronger, more equitable community.

During this time of giving, we invite you to make a financial contribution to help us continue transforming lives through future projects. Every dollar counts and makes a direct impact on providing much-needed assistance to our Black neighbors.

In addition to donating directly via our website, there are two other meaningful ways you can donate to Taking Ownership PDX. These include donations to our Holiday Family Adoption Drive or monetary donations via Willamette Week Give!Guide!. Learn more about these opportunities further down in this newsletter issue.

Looking for a way to get involved beyond donating? Join us as a volunteer! Your time and effort can create real, lasting change. Visit our website to learn how you can sign up and make a difference.

Recent Grants for Taking Ownership PDX

In addition to donations from people like you, Taking Ownership PDX is grateful for the grants we receive that further support our mission. Most recently, we want to highlight a few grants we received.

1803 Fund

We are honored to announce that Taking Ownership PDX has been awarded $2.3 million from the 1803 Fund, to be distributed over the next five years! This transformative investment in our general operations will allow us to hire more staff, strengthen our infrastructure, and ensure that 100% of all future donations and grant funding directly support the work being done in the Black community.

The 1803 Fund was established with a historic $400 million gift from Nike founder Phil Knight and his wife Penny to support Black residents of Portland. Its mission focuses on enhancing place, culture, and education in the Albina district, encompassing inner North and Northeast Portland.

We are deeply grateful to the 1803 Fund for recognizing and supporting our vision. This partnership will empower us to expand our impact, helping even more Black homeowners in Portland thrive and build generational stability. Together, we’re creating meaningful, lasting change.

Learn more about the significance of the 1803 Fund through an interview with its CEO, Rukaiyah Adams, here.

Collins Foundation Grant

We are excited to announce that Taking Ownership PDX has been awarded a $40,000 grant from the Collins Foundation! This incredible support will allow us to continue our work uplifting Black homeowners and addressing housing inequities in Portland. We are deeply grateful to the Collins Foundation for recognizing the importance of our mission and investing in the transformative change we strive to create.

Ninety-Nine Girlfriends Grant

Taking Ownership PDX has also received a generous $10,000 grant from Ninety-Nine Girlfriends, a local women’s collective giving group dedicated to funding impactful nonprofits through collective philanthropy. We were honored to attend their inspiring annual award celebration this year!

Living Room Realty’s Loving Room Fund

We are thrilled to share that Taking Ownership PDX has been selected for a second time to receive Living Room Realty’s Loving Room Fund! For the next two years, we’ll continue to receive quarterly donations from a portion of their realtors’ commissions.

This incredible partnership has supported our mission for the past two years, and we are deeply grateful to the realtors and the Living Room Realty team for their unwavering commitment to our work. Your generosity fuels our efforts to create lasting change in the community—thank you for believing in us and standing by our side!

These funds will directly support critical home repairs and renovations, helping us combat gentrification and displacement while strengthening our community. We are deeply grateful for this incredible support!
